Beginnings are hard.
A blank page, an empty room, an idea still half-formed—it’s all a bit unnerving, isn’t it? But if I waited for everything to be fully formed before putting it out into the world, I’d never write a word.
So, here we are. This isn’t a newsletter, exactly. It’s more of a home—an ongoing journal, a place to think things through, make connections, and leave room for both certainty and doubt. A space for people who care deeply about art, history, and culture, not just as finished products but as living, shifting forces that shape how we see the world (and ourselves).
Why this, why now?
Because I’ve been having these conversations in fragments—on museum benches, in late-night texts, in the margins of books I’ll probably never return to—and I wanted a place to gather them properly.
I’ve spent time in finance, academia, and the art world, all of which are preoccupied with assigning value, often in hilariously arbitrary ways while pretending it’s science.
But what actually matters? What makes something worth remembering, collecting, or debating? Why do we care about certain artists and not others? And how do we make sense of all this in a culture that moves too fast to catch its breath?
What kind of space is this?
One for the thoughtfully opinionated. The culturally restless. The ones who collect museum tickets, half-read essays, and niche fascinations like souvenirs. At its best, this is a space for curiosity—for thinking aloud, unpacking ideas, and sharing what I find with people who might, in turn, share something back.
It is definitely not a place that takes itself too seriously. I’m serious about that.
What to expect
It’s part journal, part critique, part ongoing exercise in curation. Some weeks will be more considered, others more off-the-cuff. Some thoughts will be neatly tied up, others will linger unfinished. That’s the point.
Over time, I hope it becomes something larger—not just a place for commentary, but a foundation for shaping, selecting, and bringing things into the world with intention.
Things will be opinionated but considered. Thoughtful but unsentimental. I’m here to bridge the gap between academic writing and the TikTok-Zillennial I am at heart. But if I ever start sounding like a grad student trying to impress a room of peers, you have permission to unsubscribe immediately.
It’s a journal, not a manifesto. A home, not a platform. A conversation, not a broadcast.
If that sounds like your kind of thing, welcome. If it doesn’t, I admire your curiosity for making it this far.
